FAQ No. FAQ01277
Question
What is the most effective type of reflection for a given sensing
object?
Answer

Diffuse Surface:
The surface has a uniform roughness so the reflected light scatters in a
uniform manner. The reflected light is distributed evenly in all
directions.
Recommended models
Diffuse Reflective Sensor Heads:
ZX-LD40 (Diffuse Reflection)
ZX-LD100 (Diffuse Reflection)
ZX-LD300 (Diffuse Reflection)
Refer to
ZX-L-N Smart Sensor (Laser
Displacement Type) for details.
Mirror Surface:
Light is reflected at the same angle as the incident angle. There is no
reflection in other directions.
Recommended models
Regular Reflective Sensor Heads:
ZX-LD30V (Mirror Reflection, Spot Beam)
ZX-LD30VL (Mirror Reflection, Line Beam)
Refer to
ZX-L-N Smart Sensor (Laser
Displacement Type) for details.
Metallic Surface:
There are inclinations on the surface (e.g.,
hair lines) and the reflection density rises suddenly in some areas.
Recommended models
Line Beam Sensor Heads:
ZX-LD40L (Diffuse Reflection, Line Beam)
ZX-LD100L (Diffuse Reflection, Line Beam)
ZX-LD300L (Diffuse Reflection, Line Beam)
Refer to
ZX-L-N Smart Sensor (Laser
Displacement Type) for details.
Transparent Object:
Similar to a mirror surface. Some diffuse reflection exists but it is
extremely small.
Transparent objects cannot be detected with
Smart Sensors.
The following products are effective in
detecting transparent objects:
•
ZS-HLD/-LD Series Smart Sensors (2D CMOS Laser Type)
