No Contacts between Moving Parts with
Non-contact Door Switch

AUGUST 12, 2004 (ASIA PACIFIC) -
Omron Asia Pacific announced the introduction of the D40B, a new
range of compact, non-contact door switches. The main advantage
of these switches over conventional ones is that as there is no
contact between moving parts, mechanical wear and tear is
significantly reduced as are the adverse effects of particles
resulting from mechanical abrasion. They also have a IP67
rating, allowing them to be completely hosed down.
The D40B series Non-contact Door Switches are used in safety door applications, that
require category 3 protection; meaning that a single fault in
any component will not led to a loss of overall safety function.
The non-contact feature means there is no keying mechanism,
virtually eliminating maintenance due to door alignment
problems.
The D40B switches are sold as a matching pair (sensor and
activator) and have a sensing distance of between 5 and 20 mm.
For added versatility, three sizes are available: standard,
elongated and high-temperature (up to 125 degrees C). All
switching units have 1 or 2 pole outputs and came with either
connectors or prewired (with 3, 5 or 10M cables). Separate
safety controllers are available (D40B-J series) to maintain the
safety rating.
This non-contact door switches have a minimum electrical durability of
100,000 operations and comply with several EN/IEC safety
standards and have obtained both UL and TUV approvals.
